Mary Parker Moncure Vaden
Junior Sailing Award

Burwell Vaden established a special Junior Sailing Award in memory of his wife Polly Vaden, who died June 26, 1999. The award includes a permanent trophy to be kept at RRYC. The trophy is engraved with the name of the junior sailor who best meets the criteria for the award, and is presented at the RRYC annual meeting in November. The recipient also receives an engraved award to keep.

Criteria for the award are sportsmanship, leadership, and participation, as well as proficiency in sailing classes, races, and other related sailing events. Helping children reach their full potential was a goal actively pursued by Polly, and this award in her memory is a meaningful way for us to remember her and the ideals she espoused.

Training for Junior Sailors

RRYC's Arabella Denvir operates Premier Sailing School from the nearby Tides Inn.  Juniors learn to sail Optimist, Sunfish, and Laser sailboats.  Click on the LINKS tab at left for information about Premier Sailing.
