The Rappahannock is home to the world's largest fleet of Cape Dory Typhoon sailboats. Over the past 20 years the number of Typhoons has exploded to 50 boats on Carter’s Creek in Irvington, VA and another 20 boats on nearby creeks and rivers. In 2011, RRYC founded the Cape Dory Typhoon National Championship Regatta which takes place ever other year. Throughout the year, RRYC hosts weekly Wednesday night races during the Spring and Fall sailing season and several other sailing events during the course of a typical year.
